Er entwässert den Zemmgrund, eines der Hochtäler in den Zillertaler Alpen, durchfließt das Zemmtal und mündet in Mayrhofen im Zillertal in den Ziller. Zemmtal nennt man nur den Unterlauf des Zemmbachs, meint man seine ganze Talung, spricht man von Zemmbachtal.
